Artist's Description

The Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal leaves the main line at Marsworth and falls 95 feet over 6 miles and through 16 narrow locks to the marina at Aylesbury. The Arm was surveyed in 1793 and opened in 1814.

This scene is close to the hamlet of Puttenham, where the Arm crosses from Hertfordshire to Buckinghamshire.
