Artist's Description

I can remember clearly the first time I saw pictures of these mountains on a TV programme in 1999. At the time I made a promise to myself that I would someday visit this mysterious and harsh region called Patagonia. Seven years later I made my first visit to the Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Chile, followed by a further visit some 12 months later, so captivated was I by the landscape. It was on this second visit that I captured this image at dawn. Having camped out in freezing temperatures on the banks of magnificent lake I woke before sunrise to wait with my camera. As the sun came up the mountains started to light up until suddenly they were struck by the rays of the sun, turning gold in the early morning light. These mountains are known by the name Cuernos which means Horns. I also made a promise to myself to return again in the future.
