Artist's Description

A walk along the 0.2 mile boardwalk of the Painted Cove Trail in the Painted Cove Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument, Wheeler County, OR, is like taking a stroll back through a 30-40 million year old succession of ash, lava and mud flows in which nature and climate changes have uncovered mounds of red Bentonite clay and mauve Rhyolite flows, colored through in red, pink, bronze, tan and black.
