Artist's Description

After several millenia as a librarian at the Great Archives on Xos, Rolian Zanthe was bored. He looked over the familiar landscape and contemplated infinity. The archives themselves were effectively infinite, existing as a series of nested infinities within hyperspace, yet even that great wonder no longer excited him as it used to.

He often considered leaving his role for something new.

Although his fragile exostructure was not suited to interstellar travel, he could theoretically be transferred into any body he liked. After so long in his current form, he had grown attached to it(and maybe a little senile, the younger academics would say).

He loved his job and the access that came with it. Stories, so many stories: of the young universe, of the great galactic civilizations, of other realms and metastructures in the great pan-universal space. At the beginning of his tenure he spent virtual decades travelling as an avatar in the infinite seas of data. Looking for patterns, threads, connections… looking for the hand of a creator, searching for proof of design.
No proof ever came. He had given up that search long ago.

The keen young man had changed into a tired old fool, he felt. He secretly hoped for a transfer but never requested one. In his most private thoughts he longed for the void, and the wonders beyond…
