Why the Dust Bunnies Wait

Dust bunnies often form
under beds and in corners.
I have neither time nor patience for
tending to such wild beasts!

Too busy am I living, dreaming, loving,
surrounded by light and warmth.
Sadness only visits when it
appropriately lays its head on
my shoulder for a caress of
reassurance that this too shall pass.

I look out the window at the
bright new day and realize, the
glass needs tending.
Seems dust has collected and
smudges leave ambiguous reflections
where crystals reflect the rays.
Nothing a little vinegar and water
cannot erase back to a sparkle.

Sun shines upon my smile,
highlighting new laugh lines
around my eyes and my mouth.
Something silver catches my eyelash.
I lightly brush it away and it
flutters past, floating effortlessly,
landing on the window sill.

I open the window to the greeting of a
crisp breeze and allow it to whisk away the
course grey hair that fell from my head.
I watch as it hovers momentarily, then
drifts naturally, with grace, before taking flight
as a new adventure beckons.
