Artist's Description

This comes from a trip to Skye. I remember the date well, as I traveled North on that infamous day in September 2001. My trip comprised a few days cut off from the world in Glen Brittle, followed by a few more days at Uig hostel. The plan from there was to walk to the Trotternish ridge and follow it North to the Quiraing before returning along the road. It proved a boggy walk up to the ridge, but once there, the undulating terrain was relatively firm under foot. The views are like nowhere else on the planet – volcanic rock split by landslides to give an otherworldly landscape of jagged ridges and pinnacle.

I took several photos, and after many years of thinking about it, I’ve at last turned this one into an oil painting on board (16×12 inches). The view is North to the distant Quiraing, the coast beyond, and a couple of sheep on a foreground crag giving scale
