Artist's Description

I was walking around Malham and the Yorkshire Dales National Park a few years ago now. At the foot of Malham Cove my eye was drawn to the tiny brightly coloured figures on the huge limestone rock wall of the cove. This was once a waterfall but the river now finds its way through the rock and pops out at the bottom. It has an odd atmosphere – secluded, yet oppressive due to the huge size of the wall looming overhead – a balance I found tricky to obtain in paint.

Painted in oil on board 16 inches wide x 20 inches high
