Artist's Description

I spotted this peacock butterfly whilst out for a wander along Winchester’s Magdalene hill (England). The place is chalk downland – a scarp slope, facing South and maintained for nature and especially butterflies. It was May, and so this specimen had over-wintered and looked a little bedraggled for it, I found it reluctant to pose for the photo from which this was painted, but eventually it gave in and opened its wings for me.
Original oil painting 12×10 inches on board, sold in 2015

Winner of Talented Painters – Greatest picture challenge – April 2017
