Artist's Description

Having travelled through the greenery of the Romney Marsh, you come to Dungeness – a bleak shingle spit dominated by two nuclear power stations. But turn your back and you come to a place like no other. A place where only sea cabbage grows amongst the salt blasted shingle, and where tar covered shacks vie with the remains of wooden boats and rusty winches. Amongst all this I came across this most sophisticated of contraptions – A hi tech wonder compared to the old wooden winch in the previous picture.

And the names – Dungeness A (for the old wooden winch) and Dungeness B for this one? Well turn around and you see the two nuclear power stations – A being the original old British design, and B the later American model. Could there be a connection?
