Artist's Description

Nothing to do with the nuclear power station behind my shoulder at the time, this image is of some of the amazing remnants gently rusting and rotting away on the salt blasted shingle of Dungeness in Kent. This is one of many old winches used to haul boats up the shingle bank, though those that remain are long past hauling.

I’ve drawn this in pencil to emphasize the desolate bleakness of a place where only sea cabbage and a few grasses survive amongst the shifting shingle. The picture is just under A5 in size.

If you like this, please also take a look at my other picture – Dungeness B, showing a more recent winch that has hints of Heath Robinson and Steam Punk amongst the rust.
