The “Alchemical Fire” series is a visual meditation on fire, alchemy, summer, and heat. Seventeenth century engravings from classic alchemical treatises are combined with photographs of flames and mathematically derived images from the application Artmatic Pro to generate something new. Curriously, Atalanta Fugiens, from which two of the engravings originate, was written by Michael Maier. A distant ancestor perhaps?
“The King’s Bath” combines an engraving by Johann Theodor de Bry, from the alchemical tract titled Atalanta Fugiens, 1617 with a photograph from stock.xchng member Patrik Remmele.
