Artist's Description

References linking the symbol of the harp to the King of Ireland date back at least to a thirteenth century French roll of arms. An Irish harp similar to the so-called Brian Boru harp, a surviving medieval Gaelic harp, was adopted as the state emblem of Ireland. The harp design here was loosely inspired by several different heraldic harp designs. It was drawn using artist’s pens on Bristol board and then scanned and coloured digitally.
