Kid Fears

Sometimes the past haunts us, even when we think we have it hidden safely away.
Kid Fears a poem by RestLeSsD

What did you think?
That you could just forget?
Forget those things so scary,
I don’t think so. No. . . not yet.

Forget the monsters living
Secretly under your bed?
Forget the thunder and lightning
Which filled your heart with dread?

And what about the fighting?
The arguing that you could hear?
The wishing it would just be over,
So you didn’t need to fear.

Retreating into your sadness,
Holding onto a lifetime of tears.
You still push down those memories,
Those deep rooted, frightening, kid fears.

Did you really think?
That you could just forget?
Forget those things from long ago?
I don’t think so. No. . . not yet.
