Artist's Description

This little monster was caught trying to eat up our tomato leaves in our front garden. He even spit at my husband when he carried him over to where I could photograph him.
He is sitting on an Oleander bloom while he awaits our decision as to where he is going to go.

He is a Tomato Hornworm also known as a Tobacco worm. These come from an adult moth, sometimes referred to as a “sphinx”, “hawk”, or “hummingbird” moth, is a large, heavy-bodied moth with narrow front wings. The moth is a mottled gray-brown color with yellow spots on the sides of the abdomen and a wing spread of 4 to 5 inches. The hindwings have alternating light and dark bands.
