Reon Argondian was born in Prague in Czechoslovakia on the 21st of July 1948 with the name Jan Zahradník. The communist leaders at that time didn’t give him permission to study art and so he went to study to be a potter. He painted his first oil paintings at the age of 11, at 17 he created his first paintings based in an imaginary dreamlike world.

Life and luck have led him into emigration, and between 1968 and his return to Prague in the 90’s, he went through living in Italy, Switzerland and France until finally settling down in Brittany in 1971. The story of Reon’s imaginary world Argondia and the Magical Cavern first took shape there in the forest of Quénécan in the depths of central Brittany.

In the 90’s, Reon returned back to his homeland and currently lives in the centre of Prague in his atelier on Petřín Hill, where visitors can view his work in the surroundings of Reon’s original Magical Cavern décor.
