This is Miss Daisy May – a rescued shelter puppy. She was just 6 weeks old when this photo was taken and recovering from a traumatic experience and surgery.
At 5-1/2 weeks old Daisy was mauled by a larger dog. As a result of that attack she lost an eye and suffered a fracture to the bone adjacent to her eye. Daisy, her mother, and her siblings ended up at the local animal shelter after this incident.
I volunteered for the shelter by taking photos for petfinder profiles. One morning when I was at the shelter I heard wimpering from behind the front desk. I looked down into a large tote and saw this little puppy, with stitches in one eye, and a beautiful dark patch of hair around the other. I asked if it was okay if I picked her up.
From the moment I looked into her beautiful little eye, and let her snuggle into the hair around my neck, Daisy stole my heart. I decided to foster Daisy that day until she was well enough, and old enough, to be returned to the shelter and put up for adoption.
Daisy is now 2 years old (as of Sept 2015) and she is still with us. (smiles) We grew so attached to her we couldn’t give her back!
She is pictured here in a warm, rolled up bath towel under my living room window – feeling safe, secure & loved.
