My Fallen Comrade

A simple fascination
In those eyes that sparkle
Crystal blue and cold
Like the waters of
The harsh Superior
Within them I have
Found a depth
Beyond the fires of Hell
A darkness never seen before
And with no words
Could ever be described
You show me with your mind
All that you have learned
Of hatred released
And pent up remorse
You’ve seen Death sweep up angels
With your very own eyes
And tell me of those times before
You dream of an infinite peace
But know it can’t be so
And harshly you did die
With a powder residue
Left around the hole in your jacket
So I sit and stare
Into your crystal cold eyes
At the broken dreams
Of a world, a life
That might have been
