Artist's Description

Every time I look at this shot I’m reminded of how fragile and how short a time we have on this planet and that we must grab every opportunity that comes our way not matter what the circumstance.

This is as close to what I had in mind when I originally saw this scene about two weeks ago. That day I was running late (as usual) and drove passed a pink morning sky with very odd looking pillow clouds, as the sun was coming up the full leaves on the trees were golden yellow like they had been wrapped in gold leaf. For some reason there were hundreds of sparrows darting in and out of the tree tops in little black silhouettes against the leaves.
Were was my camera or even phone camera?
At home.

At least my mental camera embellished the scene with enough detail to record the event.

The next day and for the next two weeks the weather turned nasty, windy, grey and cold. I felt my chance to grab this scene I had in my head was gone forever and maybe it should have stayed there?

This was my best chance and only chance to get this shot as the very next day for a year as the weather turned again and carefully but defiantly removed the rest of the leaves with some fast winds and heavy rain.

I hope you like it.

Canon 5D MkII, 3744×3744, 50mm f1.4, f/11, 1/320 sec, ISO 100. Orange gel flashed in front of the lens at the bottom.
This shot is also available from a photobook collection called rural mementos by
