Sleeping is becoming a thing of rarity in our household. My poor daughter, my wife and myself over the last 2 weeks have been suffering from hay fever and colds one after the other. That morning was no exception. My daughter also decided, the night before, she no longer wanted to where a nappy to bed as “she is now 5 and grown up”.
At 1am I awoke to hearing a music box playing some plinky plonky music and staggered in to my daughters room. She was hugging a music box and must have inadvertently set it off. I went back to bed only to wake again at 2.30am to her coughing like a 40 a day smoker. I popped in to see her wiping her mouth on the sheets as she’d made herself sick. a change of sheets and cough medicine later she was fast asleep.
I woke up again at 4 as my wife had got up to see why our daughter was crying. She’d wet the bed and got upset that "grown ups don’t wet the bed’.

This was the point I stupidly looked out of the window and saw a hopeful glimmer of warmth in the sky. Dammit I must go out now. Stupid sky, stupid sleep.

I dreamily got dressed up in my vintage finery (on the off chance I could create a self portrait, as sleep deprivation does wonderful things to the mind, I loaded up with my wifes Sony RX100 and my Rolleiflex 3.5E I headed off to the Bluebell woods. at 4.19am.

I was initially the only picture taker there which was quite eerie. I fumbled around with loading film and playing with the settings on my wife’s compact camera (I must write to Sony to tell them that every setting and menu option under the sun on a compact camera is not strictly necessary). I must have been too engrossed in what I was doing as a photographer dressed in black walked passed me, giving me very odd looks. I was dressed up in 1940’s clothing including my Homburg hat, Harry Potter style scarf toting my old Rolleiflex and fumbling with film. After a few minutes of staring he disappeared and I went on my merry way taking pictures. This was one of them from the Sony. This film versions will be posted when I scan them in.

Now I must get some sleep next year sometime.

I hope you like it.

Imported into CS6 (stand alone not creative cloud) and shoved a signature on it, for those people who think orphaned works are for the taking. I would have loved to have my 200mm lens at this point as the compression would have made the Bluebells really thick. I’ll have to rent a camera for this coming week.
