Artist's Description

Old Bridge, Iford, near Bournemouth, Dorset

Number of views as of 22nd May 2017 = 2710.

The River Stour forms the eastern boundary of the Borough of Bournemouth and is bridged in several places.

Here at Iford (which existed as a small village long before the development of the town of Bournemouth) there has been a bridge over the Stour since at least the year 1140.

There are currently two bridges here, the current road bridge built in 1932 replaced the old Purbeck stone bridge shown here, which now carries pedestrians only and dates from the 17th century.

The River Stour is tidal below Iford Bridge. Further downstream it joins the River Avon at Christchurch and flows out to sea at Mudeford.

Date: 20th September 2009.
