Stour Valley Way: The Old Mill, Sturminster Newton

Number of views as of 13th July 2018 = 290.

There has been a mill on this site by the River Stour at Sturminster Newton in North Dorset, England for over 1000 years.

This building dates from the late 17th century and is still in working order.

In its heyday, grain would be delivered to the upper storey of the mill, and be fed down to the turbine-driven hammer mills to be ground down into flour to keep the local bakeries supplied with bread.

The mill is managed by Sturminster Newton Museum Society and is open to visitors at weekends from March to September.

Date: 6th December 2008.
