Atlantic Crossing

Number of views as of 23rd February 2017 = 700.

Clachan Bridge links the Island of Seil to mainland Scotland. The stretch of water it crosses (Seil Sound) may be narrow, but technically it’s part of the Atlantic Ocean, so the bridge is known locally as ‘The Bridge over the Atlantic’, hence the title.

The bridge was designed in 1792 by Thomas Telford, the noted Scottish stonemason, architect and civil engineer.

Not sure I’ll get away with adding this to the “Stream Crossings” group, but I’ll try!!

Date: 21st August 2008.
