Artist's Description

Now here’s a woman who’s not afraid of hard work!! This Mule team is hitched to a hay cutter. Photo taken in Armstrong, B.C., Aug.31/2007 at the Interior Provincial Exhibition. As Tim pointed out the mules do not look very happy. It was very hot that afternoon and that may have had an effect on the animals. Mules are a little ornery to begin with and being hitched to this machinery in the heat of the arena probably didn’t help.
The IPE is a fall fair and rodeo that is held every Labor Day weekend and is the largest exhibition in the province of B.C. other than the Provincial Exhibition in Vancouver in August. It’s a great place to go and see the agricultural, forestry and ranching industry exhibits and competitions, topped off with an evening rodeo performance nightly. this exhibition is still much like the old time country fairs held in the 1950’s and 60’s.
