Shadows of what is still
and what moves
are untouchable by touch,
they have no particular smell or taste that can be reminded,
they move on walls and on ground
without ever being
or tasted.
Shadows bring shade
shadows imitate what the sun’s rays touch,
they move along with the sun
doubling inanimate objects
living on ground and on buildings,
they rarely often lead
they love to follow
isn’t that the question we need to be asking ourselves,
should I lead or should I follow?
Mine looks like me
he’s proud of who I have become
who I am becoming,
he sees I am mighty
mighty as the pen, the word, the photograph
he follows me not because he has to, but
because he wants to
I don’t blame him
I have lived an interesting life
I am living an interesting life
I will continue to live an interesting life,
he will one day meet his love
as will I
when we do
we will walk down our parallel paths
so to one day
create more shadows
which will begin following to lead
having their own
we mistakenly walk on them
we forget they are so near to us
they move with us without hesitation
revealing our spirit
revealing to us and strangers
of our spirit
the spirit that resides in all of us
showing all of our similarities
like the formation of an M
inside each of our palms
our spirit resides in us,
take a look
read and perceive
rebel or conform
teach and learn
walk away
wonder and wander
shine bright like a star
hide deep in your shell,
we are all worth it
we are all worthless
I am happy to have my shadow with me
as I sit on this bench
at this park
this sun
I call home
where the birds sing their songs of sorrow
where the bees attack and die
where the transient reads
as I write,
I am home
because I feel the sun.
