Artist's Description

This is a window from a huge underground stepped well, 18kms from Ahmedabad, Gujrat, India. It is called “Adalaj Vav” or “Stepped Well” made for water conservation by queen of Vaghela, Rudba Devi in the memory of her beloved husband Veer Singh who was killed in war by Sultan Begara. The queen, after building the beautiful structure commited suicide by jumping into the well to save her honour from the Sultan Begara who was forcing her to marry him.
