Artist's Description

Located just outside the El Paso city limits, the Socorro Mission is one of three historic churches that comprise El Paso’s historic Mission Trail. The Socorro Mission dates back to 1682 when it was built by Spanish colonizers following their escape from the Pueblo Revolt in northern New Mexico. Like its two sister churches on the Mission Trail, the Socorro Mission has been rebuilt several times following flood damage from the Rio Grande, with the present structure of the Socorro Mission dating back to 1848.
