They speak of sowing wild oats,
scattering bits and pieces of indiscretion
willy-nilly into unplanned furrows
across the landscape of life.
But what of the results?
Someone must reap the harvest.
For good or ill, some of those chance-sown seeds
must ripen into grain.
Grain blighted perhaps,
or grain grown into beauty unimagined,
unforeseen at the time of sowing.
They speak of wild oats in secret if at all,
but surely some of those ripe random stalks
add richness to a world that would be
the poorer without them.
