putting a foot wrong again
well i’ve done it again –
put a foot wrong and stepped into another hornet’s nest.
it’s a particular talent of mine, you know,
and if you didn’t know i’m telling you now.
i have a gift for straying off the path –
not that that’s always bad
but more often than not for me it is.
i land in a sinkhole or quicksand
or a pile of what’s left after cows have chewed their cud.
even when i stick to the straight and narrow
i sometimes trip over myself,
my feet crossed in such as way that i can’t help
but fall flat on my face in front of the world – clumsy me!
i’m used to it by now.
you’d think i’d’ve garnered some grace after all this time
but i’m a slow learner.
no matter where i land, though, i rise and keep on,
because there are worlds to discover
and i don’t intend to leave any uncharted territory
on my map.
