Artist's Description

*Original 120mm bw neg was shot on Westminster Street. in Providence,R.I. and scanned and converted to high contrast in photoshop. I was awarded a blue ribbon for this creation in a New York State Art Show.

*Note: Hi, Helen – Please forward this to Ralph. It is a very
interesting picture, a view looking toward College Hill down Westminster
Street. What is most interesting about it is the building at the left – not the Conrad Building at the extreme left, whose turret can be seen, but the one
to its right – is the Hoppin Homestead Building, which was the last major
historic building demolished in downtown Providence until two years ago. It
remains a parking lot to this day. Still, almost 30 years went by without
downtown losing a major historic building, not until last year when the
Providence National Bank, on Westminster, built in 1929, was torn down (leaving only the Weybosset façade added in 1950, and this year when they tore down the lovely police/fire headquarters built in 1940.
I love the fine old Jaguar (or whatever) parked in front of the Conrad.
Also very interesting are the small buildings at the far right that
were demolished to erect the parking lot next to the ugly 1970’s-style
federal office building that replaced one or two really nice old buildings
just beyond the right edge of the photo.
