Artist's Description

The Bronze Age is a time in history where Gods rule man, reality blends with myth, civilisation rises up and starts it’s real journey toward where we are now…
It is my favourite period in History to study and I’d love to share some of the fascinating Bronze Age history with you. To me the area that really stands out in the Bronze Age is the Aegean Sea but around the world there was lots going on.
In Egypt it was a time of ruling an Empire, Pharoah, Moses and Queen Hatshepsut and voyages to the Land of Punt. Ethiopia had an Empire and the Canaanites lived in the land of the Lord.
Europe was in the Nordic Bronze Age, an interesting time of trade into the Mediterranean. The Black Sea and the city of Colchis was being explored and raided by Jason and his Argonauts.
In the Mediterranean itself Malta was leaving behind ancient secrets we cannot understand even today while the last strands of Neolithic man became part of a new type of civilisation. The Indus Valley was at it’s peak, Aryans were about to ‘invade’ India, Phoenicians were building up to become the greatest sea power ever known.

The Aegean Sea is the area around the Greek Islands and Greece itself, Crete and over to Turkey. This area was where the Trojan War was fought in the Bronze Age with Agamemnon and the men known later as Mycenaeans ruthlessly attacking the city of Troy with brave Hector and blonde Achilles fighting to the death, Helen of Troy and Athena of Greece, Artemis and Apollo, Zeus and Hera, Heracles and Atlas…all playing various parts in the historical myths being played out on Mt Olympus, where the Cretan Empire of such famed names as The Minotaur and Arachne existed, where the Minoans were once living before the Mycenaeans came, where Snake Goddesses and Fertility rites play important roles in daily life and the Palace of Knossos proudly stood, where names like Atlantis exist……

Crete has incredible archaeological work being carried out there, as does Troy and Mycenae, all glorious ancient cities with famous Empires and Kings but eventually sliding into oblivion like so many other Bronze Age cities and cultures when the Age suddenly came crashing down into the Iron Age….the last of the Ages of the Gods was over..
