The fish that I let go

In the darkness, there is a light, a glowing flame that’s in the night.
With every crackle, I see a spark, around my campsite there is no dark.
In the boat, the waters calm, the rod, I’m holding in my palm.
I see the reflection of the moon, a fish of size, I will catch soon.
The line goes taut, the hook is set, the biggest fish that I’ve caught yet.
The water churns and to my surprise, a lunker fish, yes one of size.
This trophy mounted will hang on wall, I’ll have no chance if I should fall.
For I will drown, I cannot swim, to think I came here on a whim.
I tell this story, nobody listens, of the night the fire and moonlight glistened.
I cut the line, no proof to show, I wish that I never let it go.
