In the foyer of the Jubilee

In the foyer of the Jubilee,
Is a snapshot of life for all to see.
Walking, chair bound, old and young,
Here is gathered the waiting throng.

Volunteers sell gifts for charity,
In the foyer of the Jubilee.
Stop for a coffee, tea or cake
And rest the weary bones that ache.

All day long, just sit and see,
The bustle of the Jubilee.
Read the paper, talk with friends,
The flow of people never ends.

An ebbing, drifting community,
Passing through the Jubilee.
Porters come and drivers go,
Through spring and summer, winter snow.

When day is done it’s time to see,
The peaceful, empty Jubilee.
Its business done, its tables bare,
It rests now from its role of care.

At times I simply like to be,
Wandering through the Jubilee.
Forgetting all my cares and strife,
And immerse myself in human life.

Artist's Description

This is about the foyer of a hospital where I sometimes work. I was sitting one day with in the patient discharge waiting area with nothing to do, watching the ebb and flow of people around me.
