Why am I taking this photo?

Ever ask yourself that question? A good time to ask this question is before you snap the shutter. What is it about the scene before you that is causing you to point your camera at it? If you ask yourself this question everytime you start to take a photograph it will help you decide what is important and what your subject is. Asking this question after the photo has been taken is too late. Defining your subject helps you determine other answers to questions, like which lens to use, framing and camera placement. The hard part is just remembering to ask yourself this question. Try doing this and see if it improves your photography, I’m sure it will.
