Wedding Day

My husband and I are attending the wedding of a friend. During the service my contact falls out and grows to a disproportionate size. Each time I try to fix it, the contact grows even larger and more deformed. At the horror of it, I run from the church into a colonial town.

I go into a bookstore but the books are arranged by color, so I leave, unable to comprehend the atrocity of the arrangement. The next shop is the candle-maker’s. I go in and my husband joins me. We notice that our ears have grown pointy and our fingers long. We are mute with terror. The candle-maker sees our distress and gives me a new contact. When I put it in all is well.

We sit on the dirt floor, happily munching on blueberries, while church bells ring off in the distance.
