Artist's Description

I have had the Nikon D200 in my possesion for 7 days, plus one night somewhere before x-mas that I shot the tattoo couple series. My goal for the week was to conquer my fear of shooting people. I have been a mad woman trying to shoot every free moment I could while also keeping incredibly busy at work and spending the holidays with my family.
I conned the job into letting me borrow the cam so I could learn more features, particularly my arch nemisis THE FLASH. This was an earnest and true request for the most part, but really I just wanted to play, play and then play some more.
I am introducing you to “James”, as I call her, because you are about to see a lot of her and I am hoping this does not become boring for you. (Someone shoot me a bubble mail QUICK when it does please.)
Jamie is my younger cousin and the sister I never had. You already met her in the tattoo series and you may be interested to know that the “betrayed” young man with her in those photos is apparently feeling betrayed once more. They didn’t make it two weeks. Fortunately for me, that meant she flew back down to Miami for NYE.
I took some shots on New Years Day with James and her gorgeous brother Billy, as well as two others. I was really unhappy with the results. Rome wasn’t built in a day, so I have no idea why I would think my first portrait session would be a Lebowitz. But I did…and then I pouted. A lot.
So today, James and I went out on our own with hopes the one-on-one would be far more manageable for me. We started our day at the mall buying all kinds of spunky stuff to match our mutual “quirky” sensibilities. You will have the full wardrobe review in shots to come, showcasing some of my favorite finds in the worst areas of Miami.
For now though, this is straight out of the camera without a single post edit.
Yes, I said that and it felt so good I will say it again…NO POST EDITING. A personal triumph for sure.
Crazy thing is, I have like at least ten straight out of the cam “winners”, in my opinion. However, this one photo alone, COMPLETELY makes up for all that pouting I was doing. I hope you like it as much as I liked taking it.
I appreciate the time it takes for people to view all my first steps in photography. I am very grateful for the Bubble and the influence and support it has brought to my creativity.

All the best in 2009 to each of you.
