To all my Girlfriends

You can see it in her face, she looks tired, not just physicly but in her soul.
I don’t wanna ask I already know.
Another night of him pushing her around, putting her down and making her frown.
Another night waiting by the phone while dinner is getting cold.
You can’t answer “where’s daddy”, with “I don’t know”, so she kisses them sweetly as she tucks them in. Assuring them of his affection again.
Her fear is paralyzing to the point of crippling. It’s not so much the roughing up and verbal abuse that scares her; she’s gotten use to that.
She can see the way out, anybody could, but what if on the other side of that door there’s no bed to tuck those babies into?
So I wrap my arms around her, it’s all I can do.
The only thing stronger than fear is anger and I hope she can use it as a tool.
Put her trust in the heavens and listen closely for the plan.
I’ll offer to buy some cyanide, or a shotgun if it will arouse a little laugh.
But I wish she could see herself through my eyes, the way that she laughs and her beautiful eyes
She could have a million guys!!
But most importantly the one, the one that will stand by her side, never make her cry.
The one that can provide and protect, speaking softly with a wisdom beyond his years.
The one that will make her laugh and make her hot.
The one that will hold her hand in the twilight of her life.
He’s out there somewhere, waiting for her to close this chapter.
But in the meantime I’ll be here propping her up with my hands.
