The Secrets In The Sighs

Her eyes haven’t shut themselves in days,
Her heart barely beats,
She’s fighting back being unmasked,
And her mouth barely speaks.

Her sighs are suffocating,
As they wash down her and off her shoes,
Onto the cold pavement of another summer night,
And she’s starting to show again.

‘Run and hide” she tells herself,
Scared of her own truth,
Scared of his honest words,
She wants to touch his hand.

Can she believe that those nights were real?
Or merely a fantasy due to lack of sleep?
She wants it so much it hurts,
But her mind won’t let her lips move.

She will accept the worst,
And let the pain rot inside her,
She’s far too used to it now,
Secrets aren’t that hard to keep.

But she’s knocking herself down again,
When she doesn’t say a thing,
Something she wishes she could do,
Although a lot of things are impossible.

It looks like she might just silence herself again,
And let his smiles become her only friends,
She will quietly fall apart tonight,
She won’t even try to put up a fight.
Can you hear the cries?
Can you taste the sighs?
Tonight.

Artist's Description

Hmm, it’s about not being able to tell someone something.
Just giving up and watching them be happy.
It’s life.
