Artist's Description

Trimastix is a genus of protist flagellates found in soil, rotting leaf litter, and the ocean. You probably have a bunch in your own backyard! They feed on bacteria, represented by the big circle on the bottom of the cell. The nucleus is at the very top, just below the forward-facing flagellum (“tail”). The three other flagella meander past the groove on the right-hand side. In life, this organism is very fast and spastic, and rather fun to watch!
