Love (The Fire)

And there we were. The wind whipping at our backs was electric. The fire at our feet, the enigmatic barrier of passion and destruction licked upwards; the beauty and the malice, the grace and chaos, the eloquence and the savageness, the splendor for all to share, but none to own. The frigid air spoke to us like a telepathic highway. Our eyes met. The reflection of the flame flickered in her eyes. We were in love. Amidst a sea of faces, personalities, and stores, we found noone but each other. I felt the hair raise on the back of my neck. Another passing glance; a shy smile. Goddess. Perfection made flesh. A gorgeous mystery waiting to be solved. We were in love. The smoke rose into the inky sea of night. We stood at opposite ends of the universe, reaching, hoping, dreaming. Our eyes met again, and our souls entertwined. A thousand moments, a thousand experiences, a thousand lifetimes shared. Another second, another eternity gone. A mosaic of voices overwhelmed the ears, yet we could only hear each other; the quiet breaths, the slow, passionate exhales, the fluttering of eyelashes as they dusted away the snow. Our bond transcended the aeons, and the sound of our hearts beating in unison pierced the December night. We didn’t know each other’s names – it didn’t matter. Not a word was spoken, but one million dictionaries could not begin to describe the emotions that were shared. Our eyes met a final time; the fire danced in hers. The other worldly beauty, never to be tamed. The glitter, the spark, the passion that burns within us all; the very same passion that consumes us in the end. The fleeting mystery, gone before it’s true purpose is discovered. We were in love, if only for a moment. The glorious moment that seemed to give life meaning, that makes everything worthwhile. We turned and went our separate ways. The wind still at my back, the cold still biting, and the stars still shining. “The lone wolf, never to be conquered” I thought to myself. I knew I’d never see her again. I didn’t have to, because for those few fleeting moments when the fire danced in our eyes, we were in love.

Artist's Description

Use of short, simple sentences/fragments intentional, to represent how love is fleeting, and how such an intense emotion can be so simple, yet complex all at once. Written in about 15 minutes because I was hit in the head pretty hard by a muse, and it commanded me to write OR ELSE it said.
