Artist's Description

It had been a very long, beautiful day of hiking and photographing the waterfalls in Ricketts Glen. Adams Falls is nearly impossible to capture when sunlight is shining directly on the water. We decided to save this site for the very end of the day, after the sun was retreating over the ridge, in hope of getting some nice shots.

This area is well known for these red colored boulders, like the one that you can see in the foreground of this image. In fact, the nearest community is aptly named Red Rock.

The photo was captured on May 10th, 2011, during a “meet & shoot” hike through Ricketts Glen State Park with RedBubblers Tim Devine and Kevin Hart.

This image was shot with a Canon 10D DSLR, through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, at the widest focal length of 17mm. The aperture was f/13 with a 1 second exposure. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. A Manfrotto tripod and pistol grip head were used with a remote shutter release.

Adams is the last waterfall at the bottom of the gorge in Ricketts Glen. It is just down the hill from the Evergreen Parking Area in Ricketts Glen State Park. It’s the only waterfall south of RT-118, at the very bottom of the glen, and is just visible from the road. Adams is the easiest waterfall for visitors to experience in the park.

Ricketts Glen is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. This is about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA.
