Shawnee Falls in Ricketts Glen State Park is surrounded by the bold golden colors of the autumn season. There had been a lot of rain that fell in this area recently, so the waters of Kitchen Creek were running strong and fast. The morning sun was shining brightly through the trees above, but had not quite reached the waterfall. That provided the perfect light to allow the rushing water to be captured with a longer exposure setting.
This photograph was captured on Columbus Day, Monday, October 11th, 2010. It was during at a “meet & shoot” event with members of the “Welcome Pennsylvania” group.
The photo was taken using Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens, mounted on a Canon EOS 10D DSLR body. The aperture was set to f/19 with a shutter speed of 3 full seconds, the lens was at the 17mm focal length. The camera’s ISO setting was set to 100. A ND-4 “Neutral Density” filter was mounted on the lens to extend the shutter time. A Manfrotto tripod and 222 head were used, with a remote shutter release.
The image has been processed in Photomatix Pro 3.2. Five different exposures were used, at one f-stop steps, from -2 to +2, to produce this HDR photograph.
Ricketts Glen State Park is located at the junction of RT-118 and RT 487 in Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania, USA. The nearest town is Red Rock, PA, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre.
