Artist's Description

*These little white flowers appeared as “volunteers” one late March, under the hedges in my front yard. The picture was shot with a Canon EF 50mm Compact-Macro lens on a Canon EOS 10D.

I originally thought that this was a variety of “Lily of the Valley”, but the flowers are a bit different looking and they do not have the distinctive fragrance. The flowers do not have the same “bell” shape, but the stalk and leaves look very similar.*

My mystery has been solved, thanks to two friends, Sheila and Debbie! This is a white variety of hyacinth. It is a wild flower, lacking some of the common characteristics of the commercially grown versions.

This macro photo was captured on March 29, 2007 with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact-Macro prime lens. The shutter speed was 1/500th of a second, at f/8. The camera’s ISO was set to 400. A Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable.
