This trip found the “dog days” of summer were providing a very healthy flow of water down the face of F. L. Ricketts cascading waterfall. A perfectly positioned cloud was diffusing the evening light on this warm summer day. It was the exact type of subdued illumination that I was hoping to find here.

Ricketts Glen State Park is located along Route 118 in north eastern Pennsylvania, USA. This wilderness area is near the small town of Red Rocks, about half way between Williamsport and Wilkes Barre, PA. It is a wonderful park with excellent hiking trails through the old growth forest. The trails pass by over twenty beautiful waterfalls along the way. F L Ricketts Falls is located near the top of the Glen Leigh Trail, a short distance below the Onondaga Waterfall at the end of the trail.
This shot was captured on August 16th, 2013 with a Canon EOS 5D camera. It was shot through a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L Ultra-Wide Angle lens, zoomed to the widest setting. Exposure was 3.2 seconds @ f/18, ISO 100. A heavy duty Manfrotto tripod was used with a remote shutter release cable.
