Artist's Description

Theme : To present celebration of Ganesh Utsav ( Festival ) with HDR experience.

Description : Traditionally the Ganesh Utsav ( Festival ) was celebrated domestic ( at home ) level. Ganesh idols were made from soft soil at the river banks & idols used to set at home for half, one or three days and immersed in the rivers or water body. This used to show the close relation of Indian culture with mother nature. With the time many things have changed & the essence of making Ganesh idols from soft river soil & human association with nature is lost.

Well, during the Britsh rule Sh. Bal Gangadhar Tilak had taken this Ganesh Utsav ( Festival ) from domestic level to social level & the festival was started being celebrated publically forming small groups ( Mandals ). Popularly known as LokmanyaSh. Tilak was also known as father of the Indian unrest against British rule. To awaken the peoples against British rule & with a vision to free his motherland he initiated Ganesh Utsav & Shiv Jayanti ( Birth anniversary of :Shivaji – the Great ).

His vision shaped & with the time Ganesh Utsav which was started from his own Kesariwada spread all over India. Many times during British rule the tussle between the resistance & the rule used to reflect in & during the festival. Britishers used to ban this festival & more they banned it more it got popularized / spread across India.

This photograph is Kesariwada Ganapati taken this year. You can see the statue of Sh. Tilak & a mural describing events in his lifetime during the British rule. In the backdrop. Silver & Clay idols of Lord Ganesh. The clay idols is immersed to river & the silver idol is retained. I liked this one because of the light play & making it a perfect representation of his legendary contribution for India’s freedom against British rule.
