Artist's Description

Because of the very simple nature of a single tulip, I felt that it wouldn’t work well against my very simple dark backgrounds that I have been experimenting with lately. I decided to try something interesting and split the background diagonally. In this way I was able to incorporate my dark background and create some additional interest with the addition of a seemingly undulating sea of gray/green foliage. I think it really makes the tulip stand out. Let me know what you think in the comments! The original painting is 6.75″×10.5″ in size and is painted with Rublev, Winsor & Newton, and Daniel Smith watercolor paints on an Arches 140# cold-pressed substrate.
