Artist's Description

“That’s not very scary. More like a twenty-foot turkey.”
When Jurassic Park was made in 1993, Steven Spielberg wanted beefed up Velociraptors. But Velociraptor Mongoliensis was really the size of a large dog. It wasn’t until after the film was made, that scientists discovered this massive predator. Utahraptor, named for where it was discovered, was the titan among Maniraptora. A hulking pile of sinew and claw, this dinosaur may have gotten as large as twenty feet, easily dwarfing Deinonychus.
But the connection to Spielberg didn’t end there, as this beast was almost named after the filmmaker. (This eventually fell through when no agreement could be made on financial funding for further paleontological research…Where’s Hammond when you need him.)

Depicted with full feathered covering as most Cretaceous theropods had. This is the 5th entry in my year long challenge to paint 25 dinosaurs.
