With This Rose

You gave me a rose
Whispered dreams in pink-blush hues
It dangled at your side…forgotten
As your eyes locked on to mine
Eyes of burning coal
Speaking volumes
Screaming..
Begging…
Promising..

At a loss for words..(or thought)
I gently pull away
From your visual embrace
And turn my attention back to the rose
Suffocating from the pain of you
Your knuckles white
Locked in a subconscious death-grip
Heedless of the thorns

I free you both
She from the terrible responsibility
Of bearing your emotions
Locked away for way to long
Her anxiety floats away in the safety
Of her tepid home
Relaxed, she watches me as I
Kiss your neck
Hold your hand
Touch your heart
Make a connection
And understand it all…in silence

“I am here.
You are home.
I love you…relax.”
