Handled With Care

I have this image in my mind
A memory of you
It is August and it is so very hot
You come home from work
Exhausted…
The door slams behind you
I look up

You drag your coat behind you and you drop it as you cross the living room
You are so tired
I can see it in your eyes
Your shoulders are slumped
You loosen your tie but
You do not even look at me as you pass by
Perhaps you are just too tired to notice me?

I follow you
And smile
You look so cute
You enter the bedroom
Plop down on the bed
Kick one shoe off and leave one shoe on
You sigh
Just too tired to finish getting undressed for the shower

I walk toward you and you look up at me
I am so proud that you are mine
I love you so much
I undo the buttons of your shirt
One by one
Then help you slip it from your shoulders

I hold my hands out by your knee
You smile and raise your foot up to me
I slip off your remaining shoe and let it drop to the floor
I tug off your sock
Step back
And let your foot drop to the floor
You hold up your other foot and
I roll off that sock as well
You smile as that foot drops to the floor

You lean back and lay your body on the bed
You yawn
Stretching like a cat awakening from a nap
And you groan in this simple pleasure
I watch you
I can’t help but laugh
You are so cute
A little boy all worn out and ready for his nap

I sit down on the bed beside you
Undo the button of your slacks
Unzip your zipper
You raise your hips so I can help slip your pants
Down from your hips
I tug them down and pull them over and off your feet
You are half asleep
With just your underware left on
And that is perhaps a good thing
If they were off then you would probably crawl under
The blankets and I would not see you for the
Remainder of the evening
But instead
You lie there..half dozing

I fill our old porcelain basin with warm water
I get a facecloth and a towel
Then I return to bathe you

I sponge your neck
Your shoulders
Your chest
And under your arms
You are so beautiful
I lean down to kiss your chest
To breathe in deeply and smell the scent
The scent of you
Oh how I love this…and you

I leave to empty the basin
To refill it with warmer water
And when I return
You have rolled over
I wash your neck
Your strong back
Your cute bottom cheeks
Then I have to smile
For you are asleep
Once again…
I will have to be patient for you
But, I do not mind
I have all the time in the world to wait
For I love you…
I softly kiss your cheek
And once more drink in the scent of you
You are softly snoring…dreaming
And I quietly lay down beside you
So that when you awake
I am the first thing that you see…..
