Emptiness holds such gravity within its grasp
And loses nothing of its nature in doing so
It promises a reprieve from the daily nothings that fill up
Our minutes…
Our hours…
Our seconds…
We summarize it with such a final word as if that were all
No mention of that which emptiness holds inside of itself
And just at the tips of its fingers
Meandering through shadows
Where only a few years ago
Whether measured by months or centuries
We fell as minuscule masses of that same essence
Empty of light..
Of breath..
Of sight..
But were it not for this thing
Which is defined only by vowels and consonants
Where should we have come from?
You cannot come into being as something
Without first coming from nothing
For surely there is no transformation in that
And perhaps…
Though I see you disregarding such flagrant phrases
Before the breath has left them
Perhaps, we carry some bits of it still
Inside of us…
In the shadowy parts of our chest cavities
Behind hearts and the feelings they hold onto so dearly
Sinewy and strong still…though long forgotten
Perhaps there and only there
We accept our evolution
And perhaps might be the better for it
By understanding the cyclic existence that has sent us here
Away from emptiness
And so much towards it…
For surely coming from nothing
