Orchid

I blossomed one day, amidst your orchids
You hadn’t planted me
You hadn’t given me water
You hadn’t watched me grow..captured by my beauty
I had been blown into your garden
By the tender winds of Spring
I had found shelter near you
And a rich soil….into which I ventured
The innocent tendrils of my roots
I had faith in you……
I trusted that you would see me…cherish me
I was no orchid
I did not know what kind of flower I was
But…
I spread my petals anyway
And offered you my most resplendent colours
And my sweetest scent
That you may enjoy your mornings..
Sitting next to me
But…
When you noticed me…you seemed puzzled
“What is this weed?”, you asked
You fetched your clippers
And cut my head off
Tore my petals off of me in anger
As I lay in your waste basket
I still offered you whatever perfumed I had left
Before I wilted…and dried
A flower not worthy of your garden
But something was left behind
A small seed…hidden..
Within the dark earth
Perhaps..next Spring you’ll let me live…..
